The Acne flat, with its emphasis on geometric shapes and primary colors, was inspired by the innovative mobiles and kinetic sculptures of Alexander Calder, which were constructed to take advantage of the principle of equilibrium. His work constantly embraced chance; knowing that his creations would change with a gust of wind or with the changes in light throughout the day. In this capacity, it is not unlike shoemaking. The wearer transforms what we create, making it their own, adding beauty and personality with each new step.
In both the Acne flat and heel the play on geometric forms takes center stage. The white disks suspended in black piping are reminiscent of the floating figures in Calder’s mobiles, while the straight lines in the shoe’s square base enable the balancing act. A never-ending search for equilibrium.
